Purchasing Manager – Winnipeg, MB

The Purchasing Manager oversees all Buyers in day-to-day activities. Working closely with the production, manufacturing, quality assurance and engineering functions the Purchasing Manager works to ensure optimum quality, pricing and delivery of components (correct quantity, quality, pricing and delivery schedules). The Purchasing Manager has responsibility for the development and maintenance of commodities and vendors and is continuously focused on reducing the total cost of the finished products. The Purchasing Manager utilizes thorough analyses combined with experience, judgment and skilled negotiation to accomplish departmental goals and to meet performance targets set by management.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee buying teams to ensure company goals and objectives are met
  • Develop buying team through ongoing mentorship
  • Negotiation of long term supplier agreements
  • Develop the next level of direct supply from vendors
  • Maintain and develop vendor relationships (including supplier knowledge, technology, business structure, sales personnel, strengths and weaknesses)
  • Effectively communicate supply chain information throughout the organization
  • Ensure a continuous supply of components to production 
  • Negotiate price reductions and resolve disputes with existing vendors on a continual basis
  • Communicate and enforce quality requirements with vendors
  • Maintain competency through ongoing skills development
  • Strong involvement in cost reduction strategies
  • Travel to meet with Vendors 

Qualifications:

  • Background in the manufacturing industry either in agricultural equipment or other large mechanical equipment industry 
  • Post-secondary education in the areas of engineering, business, PMAC/APICs certification or other relevant education and experience
  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience in strategic sourcing, new product development, and contract negotiations
  • Previous experience with sourcing in international markets
  • Analytical thinker. Strong vendor negotiating skills
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication with demonstrated history of success in managing personnel and suppliers to meet aggressive on time delivery, cost and quality targets
  • Proficiency with MS Office as an asset (Word and Excel). AS400 is an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 is a definite asset
